Deacon Cindy has been a part of the St. Michael’s family since her parents joined the church in 1966.  In 1996 she was ordained to the permanent deaconate and has served the parish since her ordination.  Cindy has completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education and works as a hospital chaplain at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles, Michigan.  She also works as on-call chaplain for St. Joseph Regional Medical Centers in South Bend and Mishawaka. Cindy and her husband Randy have been married for 29 years and have two children, Emily 18 and Courtney 22 who is the mother of Cindy and Randy’s grandson Aidan who is 6 months old.

The Rev. Matthew Cowden, Rector

Fr. Cowden began his ministry at St. Michael’s on the Feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist, June 24, 2009. He previously served at Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Fr. Cowden is a graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary where he received his Master in Divinity. He also received a Master in Fine Arts in Theater from the University of California at Los Angeles. Following research on the connection between liturgy and drama, Fr. Cowden was an invited presenter at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference for the American Academy of Religion ~ Society of Biblical Literature in 2005 and 2006. He is also a contributing author to Whole Person Healthcare, 2007; having written The Role of the Christian Chaplain. Fr. Cowden is currently adapting the Christian Family Movement curricula for use in the Episcopal Church.
